Description
A close-up image of a California Sea Lion pectoral flipper resting on its belly. Sea Lion fore-flippers are longer and smoother than those of true seals allowing them to move around better on rocky coastal land areas where they spend most of their time. When they swim they propel themselves through the water with the use of their powerful front flippers and according to National Geographic can reach speeds up to 25 miles per hour.
