Description
The desert can be a very harsh place, even for the creatures that call it home. This wild horse shows what it's like to tough out life in the desert with several cactus spines sticking out from its chest. Many cactus spines have barbed ends that lodge under the skin and make them hard to remove. Injuries from cactus needles can be extremely painful, irritating and may lead to infection.
This horse is one of many in the band of Salt River Wild Horses that roam the desert around the lower Salt River in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona.
A portion of proceeds from all sales of this piece and any of my other photos of Salt River Wild Horses will help support the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to humanely managing the horses so they may continue to roam free and keep the west wild
