A koala holds tightly to a tree within an enclosure at the San Diego Zoo. Native to Australia, this marsupials population has been left extremely vulnerable due to inadequate protections. Their numbers continue to diminish at an alarming rate. Believed to have numbered between 8-10 million at the start of the 20th century, in 2022 the Austrailian Koala Foundation estimated there are less than 58,000 remaining in the wild. The organization is making a plea to have them classified as "Critically Endangered" and have appropriate protections put in place for their safety and the recovery of the species. This rapid population decline has fueled by over hunting, injury, disease and loss of habitat from deforestation, overdevelopment and wild fires.
You too can be a tree hugger. By purchasing prints and products featuring this image, you will be supporting wildlife conservation and the protection of Koalas.
