Did you know that each Jaguar's spot pattern is unique, similar to human fingerprints? They have circular shaped spots called rosettes. While these may appear similar to some of the other big cats like leopards or cheetahs, Jaguars have spots inside each of the rosettes. This along with other varying physical characteristics sets them apart.
Their habitat ranges from the southwestern United States as far South as Argentina. But they face many human related threats such as deforestation and fragmentation. They also face threats from poaching, retaliatory hunting and killing, and diminishing availability of prey. According to globalconservation.org "Jaguars were very abundant as recently as the 20th century. However, large-scale commercial hunting for their skin for the fashion industry caused a massive population decline.
