Description
A male American Wigeon drifts along the surface of an urban pond in Gilbert, Arizona, a single droplet of water hanging from the tip of his beak. The males are recognizable by their bright green eye patch topped with a white crown. The white crown is believed to make them look bald, which is why they are often called baldplates.
