Description
This abstract photograph of the tail section of a B-17 bomber was taken at the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. According to the museum, this particular aircraft was produced by Douglas and delivered to the U.S. Army in 1945
Although it made its way to Europe, it never actually saw any combat action during WWII. The plane later ended up on the television set of the award winning 1960's series 12 O'clock High starring Robert Lansing and Frank Overton. According to IMDB, the series chronicled the adventures, in the air and on the ground, of the men of the 918th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force.
