Description
Ochre sea stars are widely found in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and can be an indicator of the health of intertidal areas. They range in color from purple to yellowish brown. Many like this one display a bright orange hue. They feed on mussels, chitin, limped and snails on rocky outcroppings in tide pool areas.
This beautiful star is feeding on mussels attached to rocks along a breakwater in Monterey, California.
