Description
The Desert Blister Beetle, also referred to as the Master Blister Beetle, or Lytta magister, can be found throughout the desert Southwest during springtime. They can grow up to a couple inches long and have bold coloring of deep black and bright reddish orange. To thwart predators they secrete a yellowish fluid that can cause skin to blister painfully. This particular beetle is seen perched on a stick in the desert near Florence, Arizona in the spring time. Unfortunately it appears to be partially missing one of its legs, but I assure you that no harm came to this beetle during photographing.
